You are now ready to begin. Make the beams using 4 pieces of wood, one for the bottom, another for the top, and vertical two sides. When you begin, use just 3 pieces of wood to create an open U-shaped box. Leave out one part of the box for now.
You will need a wide trowel, silica sand, and drywall mud. Start with mixing together drywall mud and silica sand to form a mixture which has a thick consistency. Next, apply this mixture to the ceiling using the trowel. However, by applying a little pressure, let the trowel skip the ceiling surface. Once you are done, again move the trowel (this time sans the mixture) over the ceiling surface to get an even look.
There are some other ways to finish a basement too. You can use acoustic tiles for ceilings. These can be easily cut and installed. One just needs to staple them in place after the pipes and wires to create a flat ceiling surface. One of the best ways to spruce up your basement ceiling is by adding mirrors. However, keep it subtle. If you feel adding mirrors is risky then avoid it. To make the basement space look more cozy and warm, consider adding some ambiance lighting fixtures to the ceiling.
