Wait for 15 minutes after spraying water and let the water get soaked properly into the ceiling. Before you start the removal of popcorn ceiling, wear a goggle and a mask. Use a ladder to reach the ceiling. Ensure that you use a standard mask that is usually used for paint removal and has filters. Scrape the ceiling with the help of a trowel, scraper, or knife. See that you do not damage the seam while scraping the ceiling. Scrape it lightly and drag your tool along the popcorn. Scraping becomes easier if the air in the room is dry, as against when it contains moisture. Similarly, remove the popcorn from the remaining part of the ceiling.
The compound coat will be applied twice or thrice. Each of the coat will take an inch of area more than the first one. Let each coat dry off completely before you apply the rest.
'Cut-in' refers to painting the areas of the ceiling that cannot be reached with a paint roller. This includes the edges and corners where the ceiling meets the walls. If you are going to paint the walls after you have painted the ceiling then you need not worry too much about spilling the paint on the walls, otherwise use some painter's tape to cover the edges. Use a paint brush and pour the paint into a small container that can be carried onto a ladder. Use this technique even if it's a popcorn or a textured ceiling.
Ceilings that are set with rectangular, square or octagonal shaped panels, are usually enhanced with decorative motifs, elegant trims, and pendants - referred to as coffered ceilings. These ceilings can be designed taking into consideration the room size/type, and taste of the customer. The overall design comprises a number of cross-beams and beams, that lay atop flat paneled fillings.
